This may never be settled entirely.

Others have essayed to punctuate the word Readers by marking it as a Reader's or even a Readers' copy. 

The most recent ARC receiuved to this imprint is this example from Penguin Allen Lane and if 'Advance Reading Copy' is good enough for them, that is what ARC stands for.
